You would think that being a real estate agent would save you the trouble and the expense of paying an agency to sell your home.
But that is not always so, at least over in the western suburbs, where high-profile husband and wife real estate team, Vivek and Amy Gohil of Fine and Country Real Estate have called a rival for help.
The pair have engaged Peter Robertson of Porteous Properties as a co-listing agent on their magnificent Dalkeith home on Viking Rd, which is expected to sell in the low $6 millions.

Mr Gohil said it was too complicated to be the sole listing agent for one’s own home, especially if it was high end.
“Some people are very closed in their discussions with you if they know you are the seller as well as the agent, so it’s better to bring in a third party,” he said.
“Most inquiries will be going through (Peter), unless I personally know someone who wants to look through the home.”
Mr Gohil would not reveal the commission but The West Australian understands agents tend to get a six-figure payment when selling homes worth several million dollars.
He said some sellers like to engage separate agencies when selling homes even where there are no complexities to the sale, as it ensures access to different networks of buyers, and can ensure both a male and female agent.
For his part, Mr Robertson seems to have upped the ante on this sale, earning himself a nomination for House That!’s Agents Waxing Lyrical award.

It seems the Viking Rd property doesn’t just have ovens, a bathroom, grass and a pool. The adverts describe its “bank of Miele ovens”, its “epic bathroom”, “private lawns” and its “sparkling crystal white in-ground pool.”
The five-bedroom, four-bathroom home sits on a 1012 sqm block, including a three-car garage. One of its special features is its walk-in temperature-controlled wine cellar for 900 bottles.
